"I believe that every home should have a healer and I am committed to making this a reality through teaching Reiki."

Ever wondered why people have reiki treatments, or come to that: what is reiki, how does Reiki work? You are not alone.
Reiki is a non-invasive, yet powerful form of energy healing, originating in Japan. It is sometimes described as hands-on healing, even though there is no need for physical touch. During the Reiki session, healing energy is transferred from the Reiki practitioner to the recipient, primarily through the practitioner’s hands. The Reiki practitioner is not passing on their own energy, and thereby left feeling depleted at the end of the healing session, but they are acting as a channel for Universal Life Force energy to flow through them and into the recipient. This channelled energy accumulates in the Reiki practitioner’s body and then subsequently overflows into the recipient. So, by the end of the session, both the practitioner and the recipient are feeling its benefits!
It is not the Reiki practitioner who is doing the healing per se, but the recipient themself. Channelling the Reiki energy into the recipient’s body stimulates their innate healing ability within, which will direct the energy to the area in their body that needs attention. The human body has an incredible capacity to heal itself, but to do so, its energy levels need to be high. Sadly, there are a lot of things we do in everyday life that weaken and drain the life force energy out of us - which is why Reiki treatments can be so beneficial in kick starting the healing process.
Man was performing hands-on healing using Life Force energy many thousands of years ago, but due to the traditional method of passing on knowledge from generation to generation, through word of mouth, disciplines and techniques were lost over time. However, this way of healing was re-discovered in the early 1900s by a Japanese scholar and monk called Dr Mikao Usui. Dr Usui named this re-discovered healing modality “Reiki” (pronounced Ray-Key). The word was fashioned from two Japanese words: Rei (Universal) and Ki (Life Force).
Universal Life Force energy flows through and connects all living things. It exists everywhere. It is a powerful, creative energy which gives life to matter and is essential for maintaining the lives of all beings and expanding their consciousness. This energy is not exclusive to any particular belief system or way of life and it is not a religion. Life force energy is available to everyone, all of the time.
Whilst the Japanese refer to this Life Force energy as “Ki”, it is known as “Chi” in China, “Prana” in India and by many other names around the world, such as Spirit, Source etc. However you refer to it, a healthy supply of this wonderful Universal Life Force energy is not only vital for our well-being, but without it, we die.
Although Reiki is not a mainstream therapy, both private and public health authorities (including the UK’s National Health Service) now recognise the immense benefits of this form of healing and offer Reiki sessions to complement their allopathic methods. For example, is quite normal these days to see Reiki being offered to cancer patients as a palliative or supportive therapy. Whilst Reiki has not been proven to cure cancer, treatments are offered to cancer patients to help them relax, ease stress and tension and generally help with their overall well-being.
People use Reiki to relax and strengthen their wellbeing; reduce pain, anxiety and fatigue; help manage symptoms; reduce side effects of medications; and support recovery after injuries or surgery.
Reiki is a good integrative therapy to try because people generally start feeling better very quickly with Reiki. As anxiety and pain lessen, and people feel hopeful about regaining their health, they feel more able to incorporate other needed health interventions or make needed lifestyle changes. Reiki therapy often clears the mind, enabling patients to better evaluate the, sometimes, conflicting medical information being offered by various specialists, so they can make important treatment decisions with greater confidence. In this way, Reiki can help people become more actively involved in their own health.
Reiki can be received from someone else (either a friend, healthcare provider, or Reiki professional), or it can be learned by all who want to practice Reiki on themselves.
I truly believe that receiving Reiki treatments whilst I was chronically ill with Ankylosing Spondylitis and Rheumatoid Arthritis was a beneficial part of my healing journey – which I explain in more detail in the About Me section.
In deciding whether or not learning Reiki is for you. I would say this: you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. For a relatively small investment you could attend Level 1 Reiki and take your studies no further. Level 1 Reiki is a one-day course, whereby you leave at the end of the day with an internationally recognised Certificate with a Reiki Lineage back to Dr Usui. Level 1 Attunes you into the frequency of the Reiki energy (which stays with you for a lifetime) and give you the skills to work on yourself via self-Reiki and on friends and family (without charge). You never have to attend another course.
You may, however, decide that you love offering Reiki so much that you want how to do distance healing, or offer Reiki as a profession and/or charge for your services. In this case you would need to undertake Level 2 Reiki which is another one-day course. Again, at the end you will leave with another internationally recognised Certificate.
And if you wanted to ramp up your energy and learn even more techniques to take your skills up to teacher level, then there is always Level 3 Reiki – the Reiki Master Practitioner & Teacher qualification.
But, as I said – you don’t need to take it any further than Level 1. It really depends on what you plan to do with your new skills after the course.
Are you ready to take the first step to be healer to your friends and family?
